Dying Happy

In this vast world, filled with billions of individuals, each with their own unique experiences and circumstances, we navigate life in various forms – within families, households, societies, and environments. Some of us are raised with the belief that we have the agency to shape our destinies, striving to become the best versions of ourselves. We choose our paths, embrace competition, experience growth, love deeply, create new life, and eventually face our death. Others find themselves thrust into predefined roles – the first son, the eldest daughter, the wealthy, the impoverished. They navigate life under the weight of societal expectations, striving for success, facing failure, experiencing love, and ultimately death.

The question of what gives our lives meaning is profound. Yet, perhaps even more crucial is how we choose to live. Our experiences, shaped by our beliefs and values, determine the essence of our existence. For those brave enough to confront the reality of death, life may be viewed simply as a journey, an experience to be savored. What lies beyond death remains a mystery – will it bring relief, terror, that thing we imagine, or something different?

As we contemplate our mortality, are we content with the legacy we leave behind? Do we find solace in the thought of being remembered fondly for the kindness we bestowed upon others? Are we at peace knowing that we depart this world without carrying heavy burdens in our hearts? Do we find joy in the memories of the beauty we’ve witnessed, the sounds we’ve heard, and the scents we’ve savored? Are we comforted by the knowledge that our loved ones will be cared for in our absence?

In embracing the inevitability of death, perhaps we find a sense of serenity – acknowledging it as a natural part of life’s cycle, akin to the rising and setting of the sun. And in this acceptance, we may find ourselves uttering the simple yet profound affirmation: “All is Well.”
