"Please Look at Me
When You're Talking About Me."
Too often, patients feel they are not included in the decision-making process regarding their own healthcare.
Unfortunately, Brenda Patterson had a first-hand experience while sitting in a Doctors office. Instead of speaking to her, the doctor spoke to Brenda's daughter/caregiver the entire visit.
As a Caregiver, your patient has the right to set goals and make decisions.
Make sure they are heard.
Keep these actions in mind:
Taken from David Kessler's book -
A Guide for Bringing Hope, Comfort, and Love
According to the US Department of Human Services changes in the health care system transfer supportive care services away from the hospitals to the community where love ones/caregivers now serve as primary caretakers in the home.
Comfort Homesake (CH) provides services to families, and training support to Caregivers:
We train volunteers to assist with our No One Dies Alone program. The program was created by a nurse who was deeply affected when one of her dying patients passed away with no one at his side. Her mission was to ensure that everyone has someone with them when they die, just as they did when they were born.

Your contributions help us build power to transform our communities and continue our mission of delivering world-class advanced health care planning programs and services to caregivers worldwide.

How do Your Emotions Affect Your Decisions?
You are not a safe place for that part of you carrying your pain!
Comfort Homesake (CH) offers support to Caregivers & End-of-Life Doulas through various pieces of training, here are just a few:
Many people who are Caregivers/Doulas have difficulty managing the stress, doubt, anxiety, and physical demands of giving care to another person. Caregivers report their own health has declined; most do not see a doctor because they put the patients' needs first.
These pieces of training currently happen via webinars or through our training modules which we are currently updating.

As a Caregiver, it is important to be hopeful, optimistic, and compassionate. Harboring any unforgiveness blocks you from sharing your heart with others, making for unhealthy relationships in every area of your life. Our Soul Journey Webinar and Training Module teach you how to Anchor your heart, so you feel more secure and safe. It is important to feel so you can heal.
Since 2014 Comfort Homesake has placed a high priority on providing support across the continuum of caregiving, by helping caregivers care for themselves, and manage their own well-being. Our trainings and support group included services that help maintain the caregivers' health; spiritually, psychologically, and physically.

Advanced Care Planning
What is Advance Care Planning?
Advance care planning is a process that enables individuals to make plans about their future health care. Advance care plans provide direction to healthcare professionals when a person is not in a position to make and/or communicate their own healthcare choices.
A person's decision is personal.
Completing an Advance Directive is the simplest, most effective way to document their wishes. Our step-by-step training will give you an understanding and explanation of each question on this form.
We are training our volunteers for in-person and telehealth client contact. Through friendly visits and advance care planning, we provide those with a chronic illness and people nearing end-of-life tools needed to make decisions that can positively impact them and their families and friends.

Two out of every three caregivers in the United States are women, meaning they provide daily or regular support to children, adults, or people with chronic illnesses or disabilities. Women who are caregivers have a greater risk for poor physical and mental health, including depression and anxiety.

Family caregiving plays a pivotal role in providing essential support to individuals facing health challenges or aging. The importance of family caregiving is immeasurable, as it not only contributes to the well-being of the recipient but also fosters a sense of connection and love within the family unit. Caregivers often shoulder various responsibilities, from assisting with daily tasks to offering emotional support and creating a foundation of trust and dependability.
The needs of family caregiving are diverse, encompassing physical, emotional, and logistical aspects. Caregivers require access to resources such as educational programs and training to enhance their skills in providing optimal care. Emotional support is equally vital, as caregiving can be emotionally taxing, and caregivers benefit from avenues for respite and self-care. Recognizing and addressing the needs of family caregivers is essential for building a robust support system, ensuring the well-being of both caregivers and their loved ones.
